Award-winning Choral Conductor

Tom Hammond-Davies MA (Oxon), MMus (RBC), HonFRBC is Director of Music at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas, Texas, and Founder of the Oxford Bach Soloists.

With a rich history dating back to 1945, Saint Michael’s is one of the largest Episcopal parishes in the United States, serving a congregation of approximately six thousand. Tom leads its vibrant and expansive music programme, which spans traditional Anglican repertoire and contemporary worship. He oversees the Chorister Programme (as members of the Royal School of Church Music) and curates the Saint Michael Presents concert series.

Tom founded the Oxford Bach Soloists (OBS) in 2017, the year of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, with a mission to perform the complete vocal works of J.S. Bach chronologically and in real time. Under his leadership, the ensemble has been praised for its “immediate, enthralling unity and cohesiveness,” (The Guardian) captivating seasoned and new Bach enthusiasts alike. OBS released its debut recording Bach Cantatas on Signum Records in 2024 to critical acclaim. BBC Music Magazine hailed it as “auspicious Bach auspiciously performed… a scrupulously detailed reading from director Tom Hammond-Davies who persuasively navigates the transition from despair to exultation.”

At the University of Oxford, Tom held multiple directorships, including Wadham College, Mansfield College, and the City Church of St Michael at the North Gate. In each role, he developed and led thriving music programmes, conducted acclaimed choirs, and curated innovative artistic events, making a lasting contribution to Oxford’s musical and cultural life—particularly through the historic Holywell Music Room.

A distinguished authority in choral conducting, Tom trained under Paul Spicer at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and has gained international recognition for his work. In 2025, he was honoured with a Fellowship (HonFRBC) by the Conservatoire.

Tom has appeared at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, the Three Choirs Festival, and the Oxford International Song Festival. In 2024, he made his conducting debut in New York City at the Park Avenue Armory with Shall We Gather at the River, a collaboration with Peter Sellars, Reginald Mobley, and the Choir of Trinity Wall Street. He is also a faculty member of the Oxford Cultural Leaders programme and a member of the American Choral Directors Association.

Known for his clarity of vision, deep musicianship, and imaginative programming, Tom is passionate about connecting people to music that stirs both intellect and soul—whether reviving historical masterworks, mentoring young musicians, or shaping vibrant, living traditions of sacred music.
